New Projects and Pics

First 300BLK Build 300BLK in 16" DSA barrel.  DD Lite Rail 14".  Billet 80% Quentin Defense lower engraved with Magpul China Doll goodness.  This is a very old pic and the rifle doesn't look like this anymore.  It has a Magpul UBR and a Leupold 1x4 scope with Larue quick release forward cant mount. 300BLK is very soft shooting and its fun to pump a 30cal bullet out the pipe to hit a nice steel target. Old XM177 DPMS upper - 20 years old was cool when it was cool.  Loud as crap and without a brass deflector, the brass hit your face plenty of times.  It sucked bad - hot brass in da face.  Good luck to the Calgunner who wanted this thing.  Warned him but oh well..... Old A2 upper disassembled - Duracoated in flat black.  Looks better than new!  Sold as a used part a long time ago. My Old AR that are long SOLD! They found new homes Recently I've be...
Most people think that there's little difference between a 22LR and a 223/5.56 round.  Caliber is almost the same that's why you can get a 22LR conversion kit and drop it into any AR15/M16/M4.  It works and works pretty good. Here's a little table that demonstrates the difference between the two in terms of velocity (average muzzle), mass and Energy (Joules).   Velocity ft/sec Weight (g) Energy (J) 22LR High Velocity   1,328   36   159 5.56x45 SS109   3,035   55   1,435 The 223/5.56 round has 9X or 900% more energy than a 22LR.  That's a huge difference. For me shooting paper targets at the range using 223/5.56 is just throwing money away.  Its almost $.25 ever time you pull the trigger. Next purchase is a CMMG India Evolution 22LR conversion kit for my XM177.

New 22LR version of US M9 by Chiappa Arms

Looks like the 22LR world just got a little bigger with the announcement of another 22LR pistol from a big brother Beretta 92/M9. I already have a M9 but this looks like another one I just might pick up. I'll see if I can find it locally and if its good quality, I'll plop down the $400 or so to get it. More on it from  Chiappa Arms

Fun factor

No doubt some of you have read about the fun factor of the HK in 22LR. It is very fun. When I go to the range, I'm usually surrounded by a bunch of 5.56 AR-15s of all sorts - long barrel, carbine, etc... All of them are firing slowly because each trigger pull on average costs at least a quarter ($.25). Me, I blast away happily with my HK and for $20.00, I get to shoot over 500 rounds all day long. Accuracy, I'm very pleased with it. With the EOTech, I'm able to place them in the bulls eye almost all the time from 50 to 100 yards out. We're also one of the lucky ranges here to have a tin-can area and its so fun. I'm not an operator. I'm not likely to become an operator any time soon. So for us Mall Ninjas, this is a great rifle that doesn't break the bank and easy to work with. Cleaning has been a bit of a pain since some areas in the upper receiver make it very hard to get your fingers and or a brush into. More on that later in my customizati...
